Clear identity on WhatsApp
Guide: Choosing an approved WhatsApp Business name
The display name is the first thing a student sees when they receive a WhatsApp message from your college. If the name looks strange or unclear, it’s natural for them to doubt or ignore the message.
1. Use your official college name (not a marketing slogan)
Good examples: • College of XYZ University – Admissions • ABC Private College – Student Affairs
Avoid names that look like campaigns or generic services such as “Best Admissions Team” or “Smart Assistant”. Students trust the official name they see on certificates and documents.
2. Add a short function label if needed
If your college has multiple WhatsApp numbers, you can add a simple suffix:
• “College of XYZ – Inquiries” • “ABC College – Evening Study”
3. Avoid using only a person’s name
Names like “Ali from Admissions” or “Ms. Sara Office” are not ideal as the main business identity.
You can still sign messages with a person’s name inside the chat, but the display name itself should represent the college or department.
4. Keep it short, clear, and consistent everywhere
Use the same naming on your website, social channels, and WhatsApp so students see a consistent identity.
If your college has an English and Arabic version, you can choose one clear main format and mention the other inside the profile description.
5. Test with a few real students
Before you finalize the display name, show it as a screenshot to 3–5 students and ask one simple question: “If you received a message from this name, would you feel it’s really from the college?”
If they hesitate, adjust the name until the answer becomes an easy yes.
Make it easier for your team to see this later.
